National Laboratory for Health, Environment and Food (NLZOH)
The National Laboratory for Health, Environment and Food (NLZOH) is Slovenia’s central public health, environmental, and food laboratory institution. As a national reference institution, it brings together expertise in microbiology, chemistry, toxicology, environmental sciences, and public health, thereby supporting government agencies, healthcare professionals, researchers, and the wider public.
NLZOH performs a wide range of laboratory analyses, tests, and monitoring activities, including those related to drinking water, air, food, wastewater, and samples from various clinical and environmental settings. Through its data and professional support, it contributes to protecting population health, assessing environmental risks, and shaping effective public health measures.
In addition to routine activities, NLZOH actively participates in national and international research projects, develops innovative laboratory approaches, and contributes to new methodological advancements in areas such as genomic surveillance, microbial resistance, environmental burdens, and food safety. With its extensive network of units and experts across Slovenia, it provides rapid, reliable, and high-quality support grounded in independence, science, and public responsibility.
