The Slovenian Forestry Institute (SFI)
The Slovenian Forestry Institute (SFI) is a leading research centre focused on forests and related fields. Its work spans across forest ecosystems, biodiversity, forest health, wildlife, and landscape management. SFI supports better forest management in Slovenia and abroad by providing reliable scientific knowledge and practical solutions for forests facing rapid environmental change.
Research is carried out through national and international projects, the institute’s research programme, and activities within public forestry and environmental services. SFI works closely with the Slovenian Forest Service, the Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry, the forestry and wood-processing sectors, forest owners’ organisations, NGOs, and the wider research community.
With a long-standing scientific tradition and strong links to practice, the Slovenian Forestry Institute plays an important role in promoting healthy, resilient forests and supporting their long-term protection and use.
